WHAT THE NATIONAL FLAG REPRESENTS
The flag of Zambia was hoisted for the first time at midnight on the 23rd October, 1964, symbolising patriotism and the nation’s natural resources. An eagle in flight over three stripes of red black and orange on a green background. Red represents the struggle for freedom, black, the people of Zambia, orange the country’s mineral wealth and green the wildlife and environment. The eagle in flight symbolises the freedom in Zambia and the ability to rise above national problems.
NATIONAL BIRD
The Fish Eagle: The fish eagle has a white head. The wings are black on the outside and are brown on the inside. They vary in length by sixty-three to seventy-five cm, but the females are bigger than the males. A female also weighs more than a male. A fish eagle spends most of its time perched rather than flying. It also has two sounds. The first sound is when it’s flying or perched, and the other sound is a “quock” when it’s near its nest. A female fish eagle sounds shriller and less mellow than a male. The fish eagle is also known as the voice of Africa. A fish eagle is usually found in pairs, even if it's not breeding time. It will usually settle down at 10 am because it has already killed something by then. A fish eagle will kill its prey at anytime. The fish eagle has a small stomach so it doesn’t hunt too much.
